James Larkin Biography
James Larkin (28 January 1874 – 30 January 1947), also known as Jim Larkin or Big Jim, was an Irish republican, socialist, and trade union leader. He co-founded the Irish Labour Party, the Irish Worker League (recognized by the Comintern as the Irish section of the world communist movement), and the Irish Transport and General Workers' Union (ITGWU). He also founded the Workers' Union of Ireland, which later merged to become SIPTU, Ireland's largest trade union. Larkin played a significant role in the Syndicalist movement and was a co-founder of the Irish Citizen Army. Born in Liverpool to Irish parents, Larkin overcame poverty and worked various jobs while championing workers' rights.
