John Allen Amos Jr. is an American actor, born on December 27, 1939. He gained recognition for his role as the adult Kunta Kinte in the miniseries Roots and as James Evans Sr. in the television series Good Times. Amos has also appeared in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The West Wing as Admiral Percy Fitzwallace, and The District as Mayor Ethan Baker. With a career spanning over five decades, he has made notable appearances on Broadway and in films like The Beastmaster (1982), Coming to America (1988), Die Hard 2 (1990), and Coming 2 America (2021). Amos is a former college football player for Colorado State University and briefly played professional football for the American Football League's Kansas City Chiefs.
