Lesley-Anne Down is a British actress, singer, and former model. She began her acting career in the late 1960s and gained recognition for her roles in various films and television series. Down made her big screen debut in the drama film The Smashing Bird I Used to Know (1969) and went on to appear in movies such as Assault (1971), Countess Dracula (1971), and Pope Joan (1972). She became famous for her portrayal of Georgina Worsley in the ITV period drama series Upstairs, Downstairs (1973–75). Down also received critical acclaim for her performances in The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976), A Little Night Music (1977), and The First Great Train Robbery (1979). She is best known for her role as Madeline Fabray in the highly-rated miniseries North and South (1985–86), which earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination in 1986.
