Shelley Duvall is an American actress and producer known for her distinctive and often eccentric characters. Born on July 7, 1949, in Texas, she began her acting career after being discovered by director Robert Altman. Altman cast her in films such as Brewster McCloud (1970), McCabe & Mrs. Miller (1971), and Thieves Like Us (1974). Duvall gained widespread acclaim for her roles in Altman's Nashville (1975) and 3 Women (1977), for which she won the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress. She has received several accolades, including a Peabody Award and nominations for a British Academy Film Award and two Primetime Emmy Awards.
