Dick Shawn (born Richard Schulefand, December 1, 1923 – April 17, 1987) was an American actor and comedian known for his versatile roles. He gained popularity during the 1960s through his appearances in madcap comedies, often portraying counterculture personalities. Some of his notable film roles include Sylvester Marcus in 'It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World' (1963) and Lorenzo Saint DuBois ('L.S.D.') in 'The Producers' (1967). Shawn also made numerous television show appearances from the 1960s to the 1980s. In addition to his acting career, he performed stand-up comedy in nightclubs worldwide for over 35 years. He became known for his award-winning one-man stage show, 'The Second Greatest Entertainer in the Whole Wide World,' which featured a unique opening with a pile of bricks on stage center.
