Linda Bassett is an English actress known for her versatile roles in both film and television. She was born on February 4, 1950, in Pluckley, Kent, England. Bassett's notable television appearances include Victoria Wood's dinnerladies (1999), Lark Rise to Candleford (2008–11), Grandma's House (2010–12), and Call the Midwife (2015–present). In 1999, she received a BAFTA Award nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in the film East Is East. Bassett has also received recognition for her stage work, including a nomination for the Evening Standard Award for Best Actress for her role in the play Roots. Some of her other notable film roles include Gertrude Stein in Waiting for the Moon (1987) and Mrs. Jennings in Sense and Sensibility. Bassett continues to be a respected presence in the world of acting.
