Benjamin Sherman Crothers, professionally known as Scatman Crothers, was an American actor and musician. He was born on May 23, 1910, and passed away on November 22, 1986. Crothers gained recognition for his roles in various TV shows and movies. He portrayed Louie the Garbage Man on the TV show Chico and the Man, and Dick Hallorann in Stanley Kubrick's The Shining (1980). Additionally, he was a prolific voice-over actor, lending his voice to characters such as Meadowlark Lemon in the Harlem Globetrotters animated TV series, Jazz the Autobot in The Transformers, and the title character in Hong Kong Phooey. Crothers was also a talented musician, proficient in guitar and drums.
