Sydney Tamiia Poitier is an American-Canadian television and film actress, born on November 15, 1973, in Los Angeles. She is the daughter of the late Bahamian-American actor Sidney Poitier and Canadian actress Joanna Shimkus. Poitier attended NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, earning a bachelor's degree in acting, and also studied at Stella Adler Studio of Acting. She began her acting career in the late 1990s and landed her first television role in the NBC drama series First Years in 2001. Poitier later starred in the UPN sitcom Abby in 2003. She is married to musician Dorian Heartsong and they have a daughter born in 2015.
