John William Getz (born October 15, 1946) is an American character actor known for his work in television series and films. Born in Davenport, Iowa, Getz grew up in the Mississippi River Valley and discovered his passion for acting while attending the University of Iowa. He dropped out of college to attend the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco and later helped found the Theater Company in Napa County, California. Getz made his television debut in the made-for-television horror film Killer Bees (1974) and gained recognition with his role as Neil Johnson on the soap opera Another World.
