Brock Peters

Brock Peters (born George Fisher; July 2, 1927 – August 23, 2005) was an American actor and singer. He is best known for his portrayal of the villainous Crown in the 1959 film adaptation of Porgy and Bess, as well as his role as Tom Robinson in the 1962 film To Kill a Mockingbird. Peters appeared in several notable films, including Carmen Jones (1954), The Pawnbroker (1964), Soylent Green (1973), and Ghosts of Mississippi (1996). He received the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 1991 and was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1992. Peters also had a successful career on Broadway, receiving a Tony nomination for his role in the play Mister Johnson and winning Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for his lead role in the musical Lost in the Stars. He also lent his voice as Darth Vader in the radio adaptations of the original Star Wars trilogy, and had recurring roles in the Star Trek franchise as Starfleet Admiral Cartwright and Joseph Sisko.
