Farhan Akhtar is an Indian actor, filmmaker, singer, and songwriter born on January 9, 1974, in Mumbai. He is known for his work in Hindi films. In 1999, Akhtar co-founded Excel Entertainment, a production company. He made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed film Dil Chahta Hai (2001), which won the National Award for Best Hindi Film and the Filmfare Award for Best Film (Critics). Akhtar also directed the war film Lakshya (2004) and made his Hollywood debut as a lyricist for the soundtrack of Bride and Prejudice (2004). He gained commercial success with the film Don (2006) and directed a short film called Positive (2007) to raise awareness about HIV-AIDS.
