Hugh Howey

Hugh C. Howey is an American writer best known for his science fiction series Silo, which he independently published through Amazon.com's Kindle Direct Publishing system. Born in 1975 in Charlotte, North Carolina, Howey grew up in Monroe and held various jobs such as a bookstore clerk, yacht captain, roofer, and audio technician before becoming a published author. In 2015, he relocated to St Francis Bay, South Africa, and embarked on a sailing journey from Cape Town to Australia on his self-commissioned catamaran. Howey married pilot and former model Shay Londre in November 2022, and they currently reside in New York City, NY. Starting in 2011, Howey began his series with the stand-alone short story Wool before choosing to self-publish through Kindle Direct Publishing.
