Jasper Johns

Jasper Johns is an American painter, sculptor, draftsman, and printmaker born on May 15, 1930, in Augusta, Georgia. He is associated with abstract expressionism, Neo-Dada, and pop art. Johns is renowned for his depictions of the American flag, as well as common objects and signs like targets, maps, letters, and numbers. His work has achieved record-breaking prices, holding the title of highest known price paid for an artwork by a living artist. Throughout his career, Johns has received numerous honors, including the National Medal of Arts and Presidential Medal of Freedom. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the American Philosophical Society. Currently residing in Connecticut, he is considered the United States' foremost living artist.
