Jo Marie Payton is an American actress and singer, born on August 3, 1950, in Miami, Florida. She gained recognition for her portrayal of Harriette Baines Winslow on the popular sitcom Family Matters (1989–1998), a role she originated on Perfect Strangers. Payton also provided the voice for Suga Mama Proud on Disney Channel's The Proud Family (2001–2005) and its TV Movie The Proud Family Movie. She reprised the role in Disney+'s revival The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder. In addition, Payton had recurring appearances as the personal assistant to Gregory Hines' character on Will & Grace (1999–2000). She is known for her talent and received an NAACP Image Award nomination in 2005.
