Peter Dennis Blandford Townshend (born 19 May 1945) is an English musician known as the co-founder, leader, guitarist, second lead vocalist, and principal songwriter of the influential rock band the Who. With the band, he has written over 100 songs for their studio albums, including the concept albums Tommy (1969) and Quadrophenia (1973), as well as popular rock radio hits like Who's Next (1971). Townshend's aggressive playing style and innovative songwriting techniques have earned him critical acclaim. Apart from his work with the Who, he has released numerous solo albums featuring more than 100 additional songs. In addition to guitar, Townshend plays keyboards, banjo, accordion, harmonica, ukulele, mandolin, and more.
