Ron Sharpe
Ronald Maxy Sharpe (11 March 1905 – 24 October 1972) was an Australian baseball player, regarded as South Australia's and Australia's finest ever. He began his representative baseball career in 1921 at the age of 16, playing for South Australia as a pitcher. Sharpe represented South Australia for over 18 years, serving as vice-captain and selector in 1928 and 1930, and later becoming captain from 1932. He played a significant role in the Claxton Shield, winning the inaugural tournament in 1934, as well as in 1935 and 1936. Sharpe retired in 1946, missing only two seasons due to illness and the war. His notable performance includes striking out 19 batters while conceding only three hits and four walks in 1931. Sharpe also played, pitched, and coached the Goodwood Baseball Club.
