Terry Carter, born John Everett DeCoste on December 16, 1928, is an American actor and filmmaker. He is best known for his roles as Sgt. Joe Broadhurst on the TV series McCloud and as Colonel Tigh on the original Battlestar Galactica. Carter was born in Brooklyn, New York City, with a mother from the Dominican Republic and a father of Argentinian and African-American descent. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School and later attended Hunter College, Boston University, U.C.L.A., and Northeastern University. Carter began his acting career after leaving law school and gained experience on both Broadway and off-Broadway stages. His notable credits include Mrs. Patterson and Kwamina.
