Aaron William Hughes is a Northern Irish former professional footballer who played as a defender. Born on November 8, 1979, Hughes started his career with Newcastle United in 1997 and played 279 games for the club. Known for his disciplined defending, he played mainly at centre back but could also play at right back, left back, or midfield. In 2005, he was transferred to Aston Villa for £1 million and two years later signed with Fulham, reaching the UEFA Europa League final in 2010. After leaving Fulham, Hughes had brief spells with Queens Park Rangers and Brighton & Hove Albion. He made 455 Premier League appearances without getting sent off, which is the second-most in the league's history.
