Afua Hirsch (born 1981) is a British writer and broadcaster, known for her work as a journalist for The Guardian newspaper and as the former Social Affairs and Education Editor for Sky News. She is the author of the 2018 book 'Brit(ish): On Race, Identity and Belonging', which received a Jerwood Award. Born in Stavanger, Norway, to a British father and Ghanaian mother, Hirsch was raised in Wimbledon, southwest London. She comes from a diverse background, with a paternal grandfather who fled Berlin in 1938 and a maternal grandfather involved in establishing Ghana's education system. Hirsch is a graduate of Wimbledon High School and St Peter's College, Oxford.
