Alfonso Teofilo Brown, better known as Panama Al Brown, was a Panamanian professional boxer who made history by becoming boxing's first Latin American world champion. He won the NYSAC, NBA, and IBU bantamweight titles in the late 1920s and early 1930s. Brown faced racial barriers throughout his career as an Afro-Panamanian in the US. Despite this, he continued to excel in the ring, winning the IBU bantamweight title again in 1938. Brown's flamboyant lifestyle and interest in the arts made him a prominent figure in the gay nightlife of Paris, where he performed in a cabaret. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest bantamweight boxers in history.
