    Alan Warwick Palmer (28 September 1926 – 25 March 2022) was a British author known for his popular historical and biographical books. He attended Bancroft's School in Woodford Green, London, and Oriel College, Oxford. Prior to becoming a full-time writer, Palmer spent 19 years as a senior history teacher at Highgate School. His wife, Veronica Palmer, collaborated on some of his books. Notably, historian Martin Gilbert, who was Palmer's pupil at Highgate, praised his work, stating that Palmer was one of his favorite historians. Palmer's books, which have been translated into other languages, are highly regarded for their clarity and presentation. Alan Palmer passed away at the age of 95 and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
