Alastair Campbell is a British journalist, author, strategist, broadcaster, and activist. He gained recognition for his political roles during Tony Blair's leadership of the Labour Party. Campbell served as Blair's spokesman and campaign director during the opposition period from 1994 to 1997. After the Labour Party's victory, he became Downing Street Press Secretary and the Prime Minister's Official Spokesperson from 1997 to 2000. Campbell then assumed the position of Downing Street director of communications and spokesman for the Labour Party from 2000 to 2003. He also worked as the campaign director for Blair's third win in the 2005 general election. Campbell currently serves as the editor at large of The New European and chief interviewer for GQ. He is also a consultant strategist and ambassador for mental health charities, including Time to Change. Campbell has advised several governments and political parties since his work with Blair.
