Alec Karakatsanis is an American civil rights lawyer, social justice advocate, and co-founder of Equal Justice Under Law. He is also the founder and Executive Director of Civil Rights Corps, a Washington D.C. impact litigation nonprofit. Karakatsanis has been recognized for his work targeting the American monetary bail system and for his opposition to copaganda. In 2016, he received the Stephen B. Bright Award from Gideon's Promise and the Trial Lawyer of the Year Award from Public Justice. Karakatsanis graduated from Yale College in 2005 with a degree in Ethics, Politics, & Economics and obtained his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2008. He previously worked as a federal public defender in Alabama.
