Alex Dea Biography
Alex Dea is an American composer who specializes in gamelan music. He received a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from Wesleyan University, where he focused on Javanese gamelan. Dea has been a performer in La Monte Young's experimental music group Theatre of Eternal Music. He has also studied under avant-garde composers Terry Riley and Robert Ashley, as well as mastered Hindustani music with Pandit Pran Nath. Currently, Dea primarily works in the gamelan form and has collaborated with Prof. Dr. Sumarsan, an Indonesian teaching at Wesleyan University, on a gamelan composition called In Pelog. His expertise and contributions to the field of gamelan make him a notable figure in American music.
