Alexander Russell Elder, born on 25 April 1941, is a former Northern Irish footballer. He played as a defender for Burnley and Stoke City, as well as the Northern Ireland national team. Elder joined Burnley in January 1959 from Glentoran, an Irish League club, for a transfer fee of £5,000. He made his first-team debut in the 1959-60 season and impressed with his mature game and precise tackling. Elder played a crucial role in Burnley winning the league championship that season. He continued to represent Burnley and Stoke City before retiring from professional football.
