Alexander Knox
Alexander Knox (16 January 1907 – 25 April 1995) was a Canadian actor known for his work on stage, screen, and occasionally television. He gained recognition for his portrayal of Woodrow Wilson in the film Wilson (1944), earning an Oscar nomination and winning a Golden Globe. Knox's liberal views led to his departure from Hollywood during the McCarthy era, but he continued to have a successful career. Notably, he starred as Control in the acclaimed BBC mini-series Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (1979). In addition to acting, Knox was also an author, writing adventure novels set in the Great Lakes area during the 19th century, as well as plays and detective novels. Born in Strathroy, Ontario, he graduated from the University of Western Ontario before pursuing his acting career.
