Alexander Semyon Vindman is a retired United States Army lieutenant colonel and former Director for European Affairs for the United States National Security Council (NSC). Born on June 6, 1975, in Ukraine, Vindman immigrated to the United States at the age of three. He served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, starting as an infantry officer and later becoming a foreign area officer specializing in Eurasia. Vindman gained national attention in 2019 when he testified before Congress during the Trump-Ukraine scandal, providing evidence that led to a charge of abuse of power in the impeachment of Donald Trump. He retired from the military in July 2020 and currently serves as the director for the think tank, Institute for Informed American Leadership (IIAL).
