Alexandra Wright Biography
Alexandra Wright is a British Liberal rabbi who made history in 2004 when she became the first female senior rabbi in England, serving at the Liberal Jewish Synagogue in St John's Wood, London. She is also the President of Liberal Judaism in the United Kingdom. Wright was ordained as a rabbi in 1986 at Leo Baeck College, making her the seventh woman to be ordained as a rabbi in the UK. She has taught classical Hebrew at the college and has served as the Associate Rabbi at the Liberal Jewish Synagogue from 1986 to 1989. Wright has also written an open letter to the Archbishop of Canterbury advocating for the ordination of women as bishops. She has contributed to anthologies and her sermon has been included in Jewish Preaching in Times of War by Rabbi Professor Marc Saperstein.
