Amal Clooney (born Amal Alamuddin on February 3, 1978) is a Lebanese and British barrister. Known for her work as a human rights lawyer, she has represented notable clients such as Mohamed Nasheed, Julian Assange, Yulia Tymoshenko, Nadia Murad, Maria Ressa, and Mohamed Fahmy. Clooney has held various appointments with the UK government and the UN, and is an adjunct professor of law at Columbia Law School. In 2016, she cofounded the Clooney Foundation for Justice with her husband, actor George Clooney. Born in Beirut, Lebanon, she moved to Gerrards Cross, Buckinghamshire, during the Lebanese Civil War. Clooney has three siblings: a sister and two half-brothers.
