Amanda Ripley is an American journalist and author. She is known for her coverage of high-profile topics for Time and other outlets, as well as her contributions to The Atlantic. Ripley was born in Arizona and grew up in New Jersey. She graduated with a B.A. in government from Cornell University in 1996. After covering Capitol Hill for Congressional Quarterly, she honed her skills in long-form feature writing under editor David Carr at the Washington City Paper. Ripley then spent a decade working for Time magazine, covering significant events such as the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the anthrax investigation, and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. She has written three nonfiction books on human behavior, including the New York Times bestseller, The Smartest Kids in the World.
