Andrew Ira Brooks (February 10, 1969 - January 23, 2021) was an American immunologist, academic, and businessman. He was known for his contributions in the field of COVID-19 testing, specifically as the developer of the first FDA-approved rapid saliva test. Born in Bronxville, New York, on February 10, 1969, Brooks grew up in Old Bridge Township, New Jersey. He attended Cornell University, majoring in animal sciences, but later shifted his focus to neuroscience. He received his PhD from the University of Rochester in 2000. Brooks worked at the University of Rochester and later joined Rutgers University where he served as an associate research professor. Brooks tragically passed away on January 23, 2021.
