Andrew Gonzalez

Andrew Benjamin Gonzalez, F.S.C. (February 29, 1940 – January 29, 2006) was a Filipino linguist, writer, educator, and a De La Salle Brother. He served as president of De La Salle University from 1979 to 1991 and from 1994 to 1998. Gonzalez also served as Secretary of the Department of Education, Culture and Sports from 1998 to 2001. He earned his Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of California, Berkeley. Gonzalez was born as Macario Diosdado Arnedo Gonzalez in Manila, Philippines. He completed his grade school education at De La Salle College in Manila.
