Andrew George McCabe (born March 18, 1968) is an American attorney and former Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from February 2016 to March 2018. He also served as the acting Director of the FBI from May to August 2017. With a background in law enforcement, McCabe joined the FBI in 1996 as a special agent and was part of the bureau's SWAT team. Throughout his career, he held various management positions within the FBI before being appointed as the deputy director. McCabe's tenure as acting director followed the dismissal of James Comey and ended with the appointment of Christopher A. Wray. Since 2019, he has worked as a contributor at CNN.
