    Anthony Joseph FRSL is a British/Trinidadian poet, novelist, musician, and academic. Born on November 12, 1966, in Port of Spain, Trinidad, Joseph was raised by his grandparents. He began writing at a young age, drawing inspiration from calypso, surrealism, jazz, the spiritual Baptist church, and the rhythms of Caribbean speech. Since 1989, Joseph has been living in the United Kingdom. In 2023, he received the prestigious T.S. Eliot Prize for his book 'Sonnets for Albert.' Known for his contributions to contemporary British literature, Joseph was selected as one of 50 Black and Asian writers who have made significant impacts in the field. He has also served as the British Council's first poet-in-residence at California State University, Los Angeles.
