Antonin Gregory Scalia (March 11, 1936 – February 13, 2016) was an American jurist and associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States from 1986 until his death in 2016. Known for his originalist and textualist approach to interpreting the Constitution, Scalia was a key figure in the conservative wing of the Court. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, he attended Xavier High School and Georgetown University before earning his law degree from Harvard. Scalia practiced law for several years before his appointment to the federal bench. Throughout his career, Scalia had a significant impact on American law and legal philosophy, earning recognition as one of the most influential jurists of the twentieth century.
