Aram Avakian Biography
Aram A. Avakian (April 23, 1926 – January 17, 1987) was an American film editor and director. He is known for his work in films such as Jazz on a Summer's Day (1959) and the indie film End of the Road (1970). Born in Manhattan, New York to Armenian parents from Iran and Soviet Georgia, Avakian graduated from Horace Mann School and Yale University. After serving as a Naval officer in the Pacific, he attended the Sorbonne in France. Avakian apprenticed under Gjon Mili, a documentary editor, and also took still photographs of jazz sessions. From 1955 to 1958, he worked at Universal-International as a film editor before transitioning to directing.
