Arpita Singh

Arpita Singh (née Dutta; born 22 June 1937) is an Indian artist known for her figurative and modernist style. Her canvases showcase a unique storytelling technique, featuring a carnival of images arranged in a subversive manner. With no specific destination, her artistic approach is akin to an expedition. Arpita's work reflects her background and inner emotional vision, often addressing societal issues that predominantly affect women. She incorporates traditional Indian art forms such as miniaturist painting and various folk art styles into her work. Born in Baranagar, Bengal Presidency (now West Bengal), Arpita currently resides in Nizamuddin East, New Delhi. In 1962, she married fellow artist Paramjit Singh and they have a daughter, artist Anjum Singh.
