Ashley Mitchell
Ashley Mitchell (1886 – 12 January 1977) was a Yorkshire cloth manufacturer and Liberal Party politician. Born in Ossett, Yorkshire in 1886, he received his education at Ossett Grammar and Wakefield Grammar Schools. Mitchell worked as a Worsted cloth manufacturer and served as the Director and Chairman of Rowland, Mitchell & Co. Limited of Spa Mills. He was known for his strong Georgist views and advocacy of Free Trade and Land Value Taxation. Mitchell held various positions of influence, including President of the Huddersfield Textile Society, Treasurer of the International Union for Land Value Taxation and Free Trade, and President of the Yorkshire Federation of Liberal Clubs. He ran as the Liberal candidate for Scarborough and Whitby in the 1923 and 1924 General Elections and later as the Liberal candidate for the Penistone division of Yorkshire in the 1929 General Election.
