    Baratunde Rafiq Thurston (born September 11, 1977) is an American writer, comedian, and commentator. He co-founded the black political blog Jack and Jill Politics and served as its editor. Thurston was the director of digital for The Onion and has appeared on various television shows and podcasts, discussing politics, race, and technology. In 2012, his book How to be Black became a New York Times bestseller. Born in Washington, D.C., Thurston was raised in the Columbia Heights neighborhood. He attended the Sidwell Friends School and graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Philosophy. Thurston has emceed the YearlyKos convention and has made appearances on Laughing Liberally.
