Barbara Caruso Biography
Barbara Caruso (1937–2009) was an abstract painter. After graduating from the Ontario College of Art in 1965, Caruso worked in Toronto. In 1985, she moved to Paris, Ontario with her husband, poet, editor, and publisher Nelson Ball (1942-2019). Caruso's paintings focused on the nature of color, while her drawings explored elements such as line, direction, shape, and surface. Her work showcased an orderly and rigorously planar style, emphasizing post-painterly abstraction. Over her career, Caruso exhibited in twenty-one solo shows, including notable exhibitions at public galleries like the Agnes Etherington Art Centre, Confederation Centre Art Gallery, and Owens Art Gallery. Caruso's work also appeared in private and co-op galleries.
