Barbara Roberts Biography
Barbara Kay Roberts, born on December 21, 1936, is an American politician from Oregon. She served as the 34th Governor of Oregon from 1991 to 1995, making her the first woman elected to that office. Prior to her governorship, Roberts was the first woman to serve as majority leader in the Oregon House of Representatives. She also held two terms as Oregon Secretary of State and was involved in local and county government in Portland. Roberts' political career spanned several decades, and she played a significant role in shaping Oregon politics. She is a native of Corvallis, Oregon, and is the daughter of millworker Bob and Carmen Murray Hughey.
