Bella Savitzky Abzug (1920-1998), known as 'Battling Bella,' was an American lawyer, politician, and social activist. She was a prominent figure in the women's movement and a co-founder of the National Women's Political Caucus in 1971. Abzug championed women's rights and advocated for gender equality throughout her career. She served as co-chair of the National Commission on the Observance of International Women's Year and led President Jimmy Carter's National Advisory Commission for Women. Abzug was also a founder of the Commission for Women's Equality of the American Jewish Congress. Born in New York City to Russian Jewish immigrant parents, Abzug left a lasting impact on the feminist movement and the fight for women's rights.
