Ben Abell
Benjamin F. Abell (March 1, 1932 – February 11, 2019) was a professor of meteorology at Saint Louis University for nearly five decades. He joined the faculty in 1962 and dedicated himself to teaching and researching in the Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences. Abell was widely recognized for his expertise in meteorology and volunteered as the sole meteorologist for St. Louis public radio station KWMU-FM for over three decades. Due to his exceptional contributions to the St. Louis radio community, he was honored with induction into the St. Louis Radio Hall of Fame in 2005–2006. Abell's fascination with weather began in childhood when he witnessed severe flooding in the Washington, D.C., area. He served as an Army intelligence officer during the Korean War and is survived by his four children.
