Ben Shields, also known as Benjamin Cowan Shields or Lefty, was a middle relief pitcher in Major League Baseball from 1924 to 1931. He played for the New York Yankees (1924–1925), Boston Red Sox (1930), and Philadelphia Phillies (1931). Shields, born in Huntersville, North Carolina, stood at 6ft 5.5in and weighed 195 lb. Throughout his career, he achieved a 4–0 record with an 8.27 ERA in 13 appearances, including two starts and two complete games. Despite his high ERA, Shields holds the major league record for most career wins without a loss. Notably, he benefited from playing with notable teammates such as Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig.
