Bill Frist Biography
William Harrison Frist, born on February 22, 1952, is an American physician, businessman, conservationist, and policymaker. He served as a United States Senator from Tennessee from 1995 to 2007 and was a member of the Republican Party. Frist, who studied government and health care policy at Princeton University and obtained a Doctor of Medicine degree from Harvard Medical School, specialized in cardiothoracic transplant surgery. He founded the Vanderbilt Transplant Center and trained at Massachusetts General Hospital and Stanford University School of Medicine. In 1994, he defeated Democratic Senator Jim Sasser and pledged to serve only two terms. Frist later served as the Senate Majority Leader from 2003 to 2007, following Tom Daschle. During his tenure, he played a key role in passing several parts of President George W. Bush's domestic agenda, including the Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act.
