Billy Gillespie

Billy Gillespie (6 August 1891 – 2 July 1981) was an Irish football player who played as a striker for Sheffield United from 1913 to 1932. He scored over 137 League and Cup goals in 492 games for the Yorkshire side. Born in Kerrykeel, County Donegal, Ireland, Gillespie began his career with Institute in 1907 and later played for Linfield before moving to England. He joined Leeds City in 1910 and then transferred to Sheffield United in 1912, where he remained until his retirement. Gillespie also represented the Ireland national team with 25 appearances. After retiring, he managed Derry City from 1932 until 1940. Gillespie passed away in 1981.
