Robert Charles McDermott, born August 5, 1963, is an American politician and member of the Hawaii House of Representatives. McDermott has served as a Republican representative for District 40 since November 6, 2012. He previously held three terms in the Hawaii House of Representatives from 1996 to 2002 and ran unsuccessfully for Hawaii's 2nd congressional district. McDermott was also the Republican nominee for U.S. Senator from Hawaii in the 2022 general election. He graduated from Upper Perkiomen High School in Pennsylvania in 1981 and holds a BA in economics and an MBA from Chaminade University of Honolulu. McDermott gained attention for his opposition to same-sex marriage and his focus on the sex education program Pono Choices in Hawaii.
