Brendan O'Leary (born 19 March 1958) is an Irish political scientist and academic. He is currently serving as the Lauder Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to his current position, O'Leary was a professor at the London School of Economics. He has made significant contributions in the field of political science, particularly in the area of the Northern Ireland conflict. O'Leary has authored several influential books on the topic, often collaborating with John McGarry. Their work, including 'Policing Northern Ireland: Proposals for a New Start' (Blackstaff Press, 1999), has shaped the discourse on policing in Northern Ireland. O'Leary has also served as an international advisor, assisting in the constitutional reconstruction of Iraq and Kurdistan.
