Brian Silverman

Brian Silverman is a Canadian computer scientist known for his contributions to programming environments for children and his research in cellular automata. He was a student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the 1970s and played a role in creating a tinkertoy computer that played tic-tac-toe. Silverman worked with Seymour Papert at MIT and became the director of research at Logo Computer Systems, Inc. when Papert founded it in 1980. He also worked as a consulting scientist at the MIT Media Lab, where he developed Logo for programmable bricks and co-developed the Scratch programming language. Silverman is the co-founder and president of the Playful Invention Company, which develops the Programmable Cricket. He is based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
