Brooke Marie Bennett (born May 6, 1980) is an American former competition swimmer and three-time Olympic champion. She achieved her first gold medal in the 800-meter freestyle race at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Despite the loss of her grandfather, Bennett's victory was overshadowed by the retirement of swimming legend Janet Evans. At the 2000 Summer Olympics, she reached the pinnacle of her career by winning two more gold medals in the 400- and 800-meter freestyle races. Throughout her swimming career, Bennett faced tough competition from teammate Diane Munz. Bennett's achievements make her one of the most successful American swimmers in Olympic history.
